In the maintenance field, metal workers sometimes encounter applications in which silver soldering stainless steel to dissimilar metals such as copper, brass, or steel is necessary. When these occasions arise, smart welders grab the SSF-6 Silver Solder from Muggy Weld.
SSF-6 Silver Solder is an all-position 56% silver alloy useful for silver soldering stainless steel to copper, brass, or steel… in any combination. This versatile flux-coated brazing rod can be successfully applied using a propane torch, oxyacetylene, MAPP gas or a natural gas torch, creating a bond which is stronger than most MIG wires (70,000 psi). And it’s high flow: 1 inch of material can flow 18 inches bonding even hard to reach areas (on tight fitting joints).
Stainless steel is a chromium based alloy that is scratch resistant, corrosion resistant, easily sterilized and inexpensive. Produced in a number of grades, stainless steel is 100% recyclable, making it a sustainable metal for many industries.
Complete list of metals SSF-6 bonds:
- silver
- gold
- chrome-moly
- cast iron
- stainless steel
- galvanized iron
- brass, copper, bronze
- mild steel
- carbide
- cadmium coated steel
- cupronickel
- carbon steel
- inconel
- spring steel
- carbon-moly
- manganese steel
- cast steel
- German steel
- silicone bronze
These metals can be silver soldered individually, or to each other in any combination. And SSF-6 is cadmium free, so it’s safe for both restaurant and food industries. The flux coating is the only product strong enough to wet burnt stainless steel, and does not require pre-cleaning on stainless steel silver soldering applications.
Stainless steel silver soldering may be utilized for repairing a variety of stainless steel parts such as:
- sinks
- railroad cars
- appliances
- home brewing equipment
- bridges
- marine propellers and parts
- cutlery & cookware
- oil tanks, pumps and valves
- medical equipment such as implants
- waste and water processing
- and more!
For precision applications, we also offer SSQ-6 silver solder paste–same great formula in an easy to apply syringe form.
