Solder Steel to Steel with SSF-6

Testimonials

Mike,

These pics come from a new aerospace test facility that they are constructing at the University of Notre Dame. The SSF-6 is working great.

aluminum welding and metal repair

I am attempting to make all of these fittings air tight as they are used for pressure measurements. We can¹t have any leaks. I had very little warpage of my base metal and I think this is really going to work out very well.

Muggy Weld SSF-6 silver solder has been used in almost every type of maintenance shop in situations where high strength and a perfect finish is desired. SSF-6 is a flux-coated high grade alloy (56% silver) and cadmium free. Unlike most silver solders, the SSF-6 will braze cast iron, and it makes easy work of stainless steel, brass, copper, bronze, mild steel, tool steel, carbon steel, chrome-moly--individually or to one another.

SSQ-6 is a 56% silver - cadmium free paste, dispensed from a 1 oz syringe. SSQ-6 has the same makeup as the SSF-6 and is perfect for coating the parts before brazing, simply apply a small amount of SSQ-6 silver solder on the inside of a swaged part when needed. Any welder, from beginner to seasoned professional can use either of these silver solders to make outstanding repairs on a variety of metals.

This square piece of steel tubing was prepped with a wire wheel, and will be joined to a steel plate.

As you can see, SSF-6 produced a beautiful silver solder joint. After finishing the braze, a wire wheel was used to remove the flux residue (no need to sand or grind when brazing with SSF-6).

TIPS:

Both parts were heated evenly to a dull red color, approximately 1150°F

Almost any torch can be used, including: propane, mapp gas, natural gas and air, straight acetylene, or oxy-acetylene.

After brazing, let the part air cool naturally to achieve the highest strength.
